California Direct Marketing Regulations
allow producers to sell their agricultural products at or near the point of production and exempts
these products from size, standard pack, container and labeling requirements. These regulations
are another way that consumers can buy produce directly from the producer in a face-to-face
setting, thereby purchasing products at the peak of ripeness.
These Farm Stands should not be confused with temporary roadside vendors which appear
seasonally around Sutter County and are usually selling produce purchased from
out-of-area wholesale produce markets.
