The Board of Supervisors and Yuba City Council are committed to the following goals to improve flood protection for Sutter County residents:
- We are committed to work with the State and levee districts to strengthen levees
- We are committed to pursuing certifications needed to protect our "preferred status" insurance rates
- We recognize that flood protection is critical, and are committed to the hard work with many partners
- While the State is primarily responsible, we know we must fight for levee funding and that local residents will likely have to share costs
- We will pursue these goals in an open and inclusive process

Sutter Butte Flood Control Agency
The Sutter Butte Flood Control Agency plans, designs and coordinates regional flood control
improvements to protect lives and property in the Yuba City Basin (sometimes called the Sutter Basin).
The Flood Control Agency's goal is to protect public safety against the ongoing threat of flooding
from Sierra storms and snow packs that run off into the region's rivers systems. The Flood Control
Agency is directed by a Board of elected leaders from the Counties of Butte and Sutter and the Cities
of Yuba City, Live Oak, Gridley and Biggs and Levee Districts 1 and 9.

Sutter County begins enrollment into the National Flood Insurance Program's Community Rating System
In October 2008, Sutter County received a rating of "8" under the CRS program,
which results in a 10% discount on flood insurance premiums for Sutter County's
residents located within the special flood hazard regions. The Community benefits by
County staff providing documentation of ordinances, performing engineering studies,
enforcing standard operating procedures, assisting with floodplain mapping and
conducting public outreach efforts.

Speakers available to talk flood protection
Yuba City and Sutter County have formed a small speakers'
bureau which includes top local officials who want to help keep residents
informed through appearances at local group meetings. The speakers have
been visiting civic organizations since spring, presenting the latest
updates on flood protection efforts, providing educational handouts,
and answering questions.
If you belong to a club or association that would like a
visit from one of our speakers, please contact Daniel Peterson
at (530) 822-3299. He will help identify your needs
and arrange a speaker at a time convenient to you.
