The Sutter County watershed website provides resources, maps, links, and other information to assist the public in better understanding the watersheds in, and shared by, Sutter County.

Sutter County’s watershed derives from a community partnership that encourages long-term watershed coordination and management while contributing to economic and community sustainability.

In simple terms, a Watershed
is a topographic container that is open to the sky: an area in which all surface waters flow to a common point. Its boundaries separate one drainage area from another. There are headwaters and mouths. They can be steep or low gradient or both.

Where are our Watersheds?
Sutter County
is a “confluence” or “receptor” County: that is, a place where multiple watersheds merge. The general direction of surface water flow in Sutter County is northeast to southwest. Flows from the Feather, Yuba, and Bear Rivers, as well as multiple tributary creeks, enter Sutter County from the north and east and conjoin with the Sacramento River basin in the southwestern portion of the County.
