Christmas Events at the Sutter County Museum - Volunteers Needed!
November 30, 2004

The Sutter County Museum is hosting a range of Christmas events this year with a little something for everybody. Volunteers are especially needed to help out with the following events:

Decoration Day, December 2:
We need volunteers to arrive at 9:00 a.m. to help decorate the Museum with fresh greens and decorate the big tree.

Hors d'Oeuvres Day, December 3:
Volunteers are asked to meet at the Veteran's Hall across the street from the Museum at 2:00 p.m. where they will learn to create wonderful hors d'oeuvres with Chef Steve Richardson.

Trees & Traditions Day, December 4:
Trees & Traditions is a festive gala that many people say is one of the top holiday events our community offers. Enjoy a festive evening with elegant hors d'oeuvres, champagne, wine and beautiful holiday music by the Mark Ensemble. The event takes place from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tickets are $30 and can be obtained from the Museum. Volunteers are needed to help serve food and wine.

If you are interested in volunteering on any of these days, please call the museum at 822-7141 or sign up at the front desk. Visit the Museum Website for more information.

Safe & Easy Thanksgiving Cooking
November 12, 2004
The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) provides a wealth of information for consumers in preparing a safe, easy and delicious Thanksgiving Day meal.

"Let's Talk Turkey, A Consumer Guide to Safely Roasting a Turkey" is a new brochure that covers every facet of getting a turkey from the grocery store to the dinner table and can be printed from the FSIS Web site:

A fact sheet on the USDA site provides answers to common Thanksgiving-related food safety questions, and can be viewed by clicking on "Fact Sheets". Select either "Poultry Preparation" or "Seasonal Food Safety".

Also available on the USDA site is "Ask Karen". Karen is a Web-based, automated response system that answers typed questions about the safe handling, preparation and storage of meat, poultry and egg products.
