The Museum Store is being
stocked with books and gifts just right for holiday giving. It's a great place to
purchase unique gifts you won't find anywhere else. The Museum Store features the
biggest inventory of history books in the area and lots of creative gifts for
adults and children. The bonus is that every time you patronize the Museum Store,
you are helping to support the Museum. Be sure to check out the many wonderful
The Sutter County Museum is hosting a range of Christmas events this year with a
little something for everybody:
Decoration Day, December 7:
We need volunteers to arrive at 9:00 a.m. to help decorate the Museum with fresh
greens and decorate the big tree. Everyone is welcome for as long as they want to
stay. Wear casual clothes and bring gloves. Bringing hand pruners to trim branches
is a good idea too.
We are also in need of evergreen clippings / prunings. Folks can leave them
behind the Museum in the week prior to Decoration Day.
Trees and Traditions Day, December 9:
Trees and Traditions is a
festive gala that many people say is one of the top holiday events our community
offers. Tickets are $30 each and are available from Museum Commissioners and at the
Museum - proceeds benefit the Museum. The event runs from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
There will be food, music and mingling.
Open House and Children's Program, December 17:
December 17th is the Open House and Children's Program. Free to all, it includes
story telling, a performance by John Carter, cookies and cider. The event runs from
1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. and is free and open to all ages.
For more information, please call the museum at (530) 822-7141.
On Friday, November 10, most County offices will be closed in observance of Veterans Day.
Adopt a Child / Adopt A Family 2006
November 03, 2006
The FIT Foundation Adopt a
Child / Adopt a Family 2006 Christmas Program is underway. This is a very cooperative effort
between the County and the Yuba City Police Department and referrals come from schools all
over the county, county agencies as well as other agencies that work with families. The families
are adopted by individuals, church groups, Beale AFB units, County and City departments and
each year we serve at least 100 families.
If you are interested in adopting a family or proposing a family for adoption you need to get your
information to Bev Dal Porto or call 822-7505 right
away. This annual project makes the holiday much brighter for many of the families the County is
providing service to. This effort is a great way for departments to celebrate the holiday.
This week the Sutter Area Consolidated Housing Authority and
Mental Health entered into an agreement worth
$750.000 to establish permanent housing for persons with Mental Illness. The housing authority will provide
the housing either in existing housing authority properties or will be purchasing new units. Mental Health will
be screening and recommending persons to the housing authority to become occupants. Rents from the
occupants will provide ongoing support of the project. It is hoped that this is the beginning of expanded
opportunities for this group of disabled to have permanent housing at an affordable cost.
Remodeling at Mental Health is proceeding and a new medication room and nurse conference room have been
created for the Inpatient Unit. Four new offices are being created in space formerly occupied by the adult
day treatment program which will house physicians and clinical staff working on the inpatient unit.
