World No Tobacco Day - May 31

In recognition of World No Tobacco Day, the Sutter County Tobacco Education and Prevention Program is celebrating by conducting a product exchange. We’re encouraging Sutter County residents and employees to bring their tobacco products or merchandise to the Sutter County Tobacco Education and Prevention Program office and we’ll give an anti-tobacco gift in exchange.

In addition, the Sutter County Tobacco Education and Prevention Program office will feature a display that will educate the people on the health effects of commercial tobacco products and the chemicals present in them. Free quit kits will also be available.

Sutter County Wins Counties Care for Kids Award

Washington, D.C. The National Association of Counties (NACo), the voice of County Government in the nation's capital, has honored Sutter County, California, with the Counties Care for Kids Award for the county's Sutter County Smiles Initiative.

NACo presents the Counties Care for Kids Awards to highlight the critical role counties play in early childhood and school readiness, and to further develop the leadership of county officials across the country. The award was presented in conjunction with National County Government Week.

Women's Health Month - May 2006

The Office of Women's Health observes May as Women's Health Month to raise awareness of health issues that affect the lives of California's women and girls. Women's Health Month celebrates state, local and community efforts to enhance awareness of women's wellness and to encourage all women to take proactive steps to safeguard their health. 

To coincide with Women's Health Month 2006, Dr. Rosalie Pena will be giving a presentation on 'Managing Menopause' which will be held at the Sutter County Health Department Auditorium on May 23, from noon until 1:00 pm. Lunch will also be provided!
