At Work: The Art of California Labor

The exhibit runs for seven weeks, from September 1 to October 22, 2006.

Opening Program:
"Woodie Guthrie and His Times" with David Fenimore,
September 29 at 7:00 p.m.

The exhibit explores the artists and images of labor movements in California, delivering a powerful examination of labor history in our state since the turn of the 20th century. It takes the visitor on a journey from early events and conditions that led to the rise of organized labor to issues surrounding the farm workers' movements.

This exhibit tour was organized by the California Exhibition Resources Alliance (CERA) and was produced by the California Historical Society and the S.F. State University Art Gallery.

The Sutter County Children & Families Commission currently funds programs that provide dental services, free health and development screenings, school readiness programs, pre-kindergarten programs, special needs services, free immunizations and a child behavior specialist for children ages 0-5.

Requests for Proposal (RFP) - Notice to Vendors

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN THAT sealed bids shall be received for the purchase of “vehicles” until 9:00 a.m., Wednesday, September 20, 2006, by the County of Sutter, State of California, in the office of the Clerk of the Board of Supervisors, 1160 Civic Center Blvd., Suite A, Yuba City, California 95993, at which time they will be publicly opened. The “vehicles” are more particularly described in the specifications and related documents, which may be obtained by contacting the Purchasing Division at (530) 822-7473 between 7:00 am to 3:30 pm Monday through Friday or by visiting our website at www.suttercounty.org.

Vendors utilizing mail services are encouraged to have packages delivered two business days prior to the bid opening in order to allow for internal mail sorting, routing and delivery. Further, packages submitted via Fed Ex, UPS, or other carrier service shall be enclosed in an envelope clearly marked “FY 06-07 VEHICLES”. It is the responsibility of the vendor to ensure bids are in the custody of the Clerk of the Board of Supervisors at the designated time of opening. No late bids, or bids submitted via facsimile (fax), shall be accepted.

Sutter County Awarded 1st Place Gold Ribbon at State Fair

SUTTER COUNTY FARMERS’ MARKET, “Bringing the Farm to You” is the theme for the 2006 Sutter County State Fair Exhibit. The 20 x 20 open air market displays freshly picked fruits and vegetables that are grown in Sutter County which include locally grown pumpkins and gourds.

Fair goers can walk through the exhibit and see homemade canned jams and jellies, artifacts and a beautiful display of locally grown bottled honey.

The exhibit invites one to come in and sit down at the patio table or sit on the stools at the counter and have a home baked cookie or muffin with a glass of lemonade, or a Pepsi from the Vintage Pepsi machine. Locally grown Statice and Sunflowers enhance this award winning exhibit.

Sutter County brought home:

A First Place Gold Ribbon
A Ribbon for Best Agriculture Presentation
A Ribbon for Best Craftsmanship

The California State Fair is held in Sacramento and runs from August 11th through September 4th. Visit our award winning exhibit at the State Fair, and talk with our friendly volunteers to learn more about the exhibit and Sutter County agriculture.

Ready or Not, School's Back!

Just when we were getting used to the leisurely days of summer; it’s time for the kids to go back to school. As the summer winds down we leave behind memories of fun filled days with family and friends. Most kids wish summer could last forever. Parents on the other hand, may welcome the end of summer break. The entertainment ideas and money have just about run out and it’s now time get ready for school.

Ready or not, the time to buy new clothes, backpacks, notebooks, pencils, and other school supplies is here. The first school experience or the return to school can be exciting and overwhelming at the same time. Early preparation can help reduce stress, anxiety, and fear for both the child and the parents.
