Sutter County Wins CSAC Achievement Award
September 07, 2006
Sutter County has won an Achievement Award from the California State Association of Counties (CSAC) for its Mobile Dental Project, Sutter County Smiles. This project is a joint effort of the Sutter County Children and Families Commission, Peach Tree Clinic, and the Yuba City Unified School District. The project provides mobile dental services to children aged 0-6 at various sites throughout Sutter County. The goal of the project is to improve children’s oral health which in turn will lead to better school functioning for children in the first years of school.

The mobile dental clinic is stationed at school sites throughout the county Monday through Thursday of each week. Staffing includes a pediatric dentist, registered dental assistant, bilingual parent liaison and bilingual outreach coordinator. This year over 700 children have received care from this project with children averaging about 3 visits each.

The CSAC Achievement Awards are given each year to outstanding projects and this year 10 programs were selected from among the 202 entries to receive the award. The award will be presented at the annual meeting of CSAC in November 2006.
